108 Years Since Titanic’s Sinking: What Have We Learned?

It’s been 108 years since the famous Titanic sank on April 15, 1912. The beautiful, majestic Titanic set sail April 10 without a care in the world. This “unsinkable” ship left on its maiden voyage, filled with approximately 2,240 passengers and crew.  No one suspected that in a few days the ship would sink near the coast of Newfoundland, and more than 1500 would perish.

The story of Titanic’s sinking is a horrible, but preventable tragedy. If you haven’t studied   the history of Titanic, you may think it simply hit an iceberg, and there was no way to prevent it. Unfortunately, this isn’t true. There were many warnings, and many mistakes made when it came to Titanic.

As you read through the information I will share about Titanic, I want you to to open your heart and let the Lord speak to you.  Back in 2013, the Lord opened my eyes and showed me many parallels of Titanic and our nation today.  There were so many parallels I wrote a book about it.  The book is called: What are the Chances? The main message the Lord showed me is that the United States is a nation being ripped apart.  Like the Titanic, which was torn in half, our nation had come to a crossroads spiritually.  We could either stand with God and stay afloat, or turn against him and sink like Titanic.  I also saw great division coming to our nation.  Back in 2013 I wasn’t sure exactly what would bring the division.  But now, in 2020, I can see with 20/20 vision that our nation has entered a “Civil War” like state.  We are a nation divided politically and morally.  We are a nation fighting to stay afloat.  With the COVID-19 virus iceberg, we are now seeing a tremendous rip in our ship’s hull.  Where is it all going from here?

To get  to the end we must first start from the beginning.  Seeing the beginning will bring clarity to the current spiritual situation we are witnessing in our nation right now.

They Thought Titanic was Unsinkable

As you already know, there was this idea that Titanic was unsinkable.  In 1912, when the Titanic set sail, it was the largest moving, man-made object in the world!

Titanic was as big as a New York City Skyscraper.  In fact, if you placed the Titanic upright, she would have been taller than many of the skyscrapers in New York City in her day.  Interestingly enough, Titanic was on its way to New York.  Unfortunately, it never made it there.

Constructed with thousands of steel plates and 3 million steel and iron rivets, Titanic was seen as a modern marvel of strength in its day.  It took 20 horses just to transport the main anchor.

Captain Edward Smith was quoted as saying, “I cannot imagine any condition which would cause a ship to founder. I cannot conceive of any vital disaster happening to this vessel. Modern ship building has gone beyond that.”

Titanic’s reputation as being unsinkable began before she ever set sail.  Seen as a modern feat of engineering, the ship was made with a double-plated bottom and sixteen watertight compartments. These compartments were supposed to be sealed if water entered any of them. This would keep water from flowing into the other areas of the hull.

These unsinkable features didn’t mean much to the iceberg looming ahead, which was roughly ten times the size of the Titanic! Actually, this iceberg was 200-400 feet long and between 50-100 feet high. The majority of it, however, lay below the surface of the water.  The ship turned sharply and did not make a direct hit.  Instead, the ship grazed the iceberg, which left ice fragments on the deck.

At first, it seemed all was well.  Surely, just grazing the berg wouldn’t cause too much damage to a ship made of  high grade steel. Unfortunately, no one saw the 300 foot gash the iceberg had left in the hull.  The impact with this iceberg opened six of the “watertight” compartments –which didn’t end up being so watertight!

No one expected the hull to buckle. No one expected the watertight compartments to fail.   Isn’t that how life is? We don’t expect accidents or disasters, yet they happen.  But, sometimes there are unmistakable warnings, as you will soon see.

TITANIC HAD SEVEN WARNINGS

By the time Titanic struck that massive berg, at least seven warnings had been given about icebergs in the area. These warnings were given on April 14, the date Titanic hit the iceberg.   That’s right- SEVEN! 

The first iceberg warning was sent by the RMS Caronia at 9:00 a.m., on the morning of April 14. The message reported “bergs, growlers and field ice.” This message was delivered to the bridge from the Captain and the officers were supposed to make note of it.

Not too long after this another warning came in.   At 11:40 a.m. the Dutch Liner Noordam reported there being lots of ice in the same area reported by the Caronia.

At 1:42 p.m. Titanic operators received yet another ice warning.  It was from one of the White Star Line’s own ships, the Baltic. This time the message was given to Captain Smith, who discussed it with the Chairman of the White Star Line, Bruce Ismay. (Remember that Titanic was a ship built by the White Star Line).  At this time, no action was taken regarding the ice warning.  Bruce Ismay simply stuck the message in his pocket.  Later on, the Captain asked Ismay to hand him the warning message and he posted it on the chart. Unfortunately, this happened over five hours later, around 7:15 p.m.

Another warning came right after the last one, at 1:45.  This time it was from a ship called the Amerika. This message was first given to the Hydrographic Office in Washington. The message stated the Amerika had passed two large icebergs. The message was passed on to Titanic, but for some reason, this message never even made it to the bridge.  Some assumed this message was heard by at least one of the wireless operators, but it was never relayed to the bridge.

The next warning was received at 7:30 p.m. and it was sent by a ship called the Californian.  This message was sent to another ship called the SS Antillian, but the message came through on Titanic’s wireless transmissions. This means the Titanic’s wireless operators heard it.  The message revealed there were three large icebergs in the area. Once this message was heard, one of the wireless operators, Harold Bride, delivered it to the bridge. The message, however, was not given to Captain Smith.  At the time, the Captain was attending his own dinner party.

By 9:00 p.m. the Captain checked in with the officers at the bridge to see if everyone was ok. Seeing no issues, the Captain goes TO BED.

The lookouts of Titanic had been warned to keep their eyes open for icebergs, but no extra lookouts were posted that fateful night.   Even with the possibility of icebergs in the area, the ship moved full speed ahead.  In fact, the ship was trying to break a speed record because Titanic was touted as one of the fastest ships on the ocean. Despite reports of icebergs in the area, getting to New York in record time was more important than slowing down.

At 9:40 p.m. the Titanic received an iceberg warning from the steamship Mesaba. The message said there was lots of heavy pack ice and icebergs in the area. Titanic was in this area at the time the message was received.  Shockingly, this message never made it to the bridge.  The operator who received the message claimed he was too busy to deal with the message. He was sending commercial traffic to Cape Race at the time. He was dealing with a backlog of messages that night. These messages, however, were not essential and were simply messages for passengers aboard the ship. Instead of dealing with urgent iceberg warnings, the operator was focusing on unimportant messages.  As the operator overlooked the dire iceberg warnings, he took away precious time that could have been used to avoid icebergs.  The message never made it to the Captain.

Was it the Operators’ Fault?

Many have blamed the wireless operators for not dealing with the iceberg warnings in a timely manner. But, the truth is, why were the operators dealing with passenger messages AND iceberg warnings?  Shouldn’t Titanic have posted specific operators to deal with warnings, and other operators just to deal with passenger messages?  This way, they wouldn’t have to sift through all the messages at once.  It would be easier to discern what messages were the most important.

THE FINAL ICEBERG WARNING

The last message came in at 10:55 p.m.  It came from the Californian. This is the same ship that sent a warning at 7:30 p.m.  When this warning came in at 10:55, the Californian was only ten miles from Titanic.  Since the ship was so close, the transmission of the message came in louder than usual into the ears of the operator, Jack Phillips. As the message began to blast into his ears, he became agitated and angrily shouted, “Shut up, shut up, I am busy……I am working Cape Race.”  The operator of the Californian was trying to tell Titanic their boat had stopped for the night because of a large field of ice.  BUT, THE MESSAGE NEVER MADE IT THROUGH.

After Phillips yelled at him, the operator of the Californian was offended so he just shut off his radio. Then he went to bed!

THE ICEBERG WARNING WAS IGNORED

So, the warning was ignored by one operator, and then the other operator went to sleep.

Sadly, since the Californian was so close, it could have easily saved Titanic. Ironically, the Titanic does end up calling the Californian for help after they hit the iceberg at 11:40.  Unfortunately, the radio of the Californian had been turned off and the operator was in bed.

SO DID THE CALIFORNIAN.

Titanic had plenty of warnings. They just didn’t heed them.

Of course, what about the lookouts? Why didn’t they see such a large iceberg?  The problem was that the majority of the iceberg (80%), was BELOW THE WATER.  The iceberg would have appeared small from the top. But, underneath lay a monstrous chunk of ice, large enough to sink a ship.

Titanic sank on a moonless night

To make matters worse, the night Titanic sank, it was a moonless night. This meant the sky was jet black and the seas were eerily calm.  On a moonless night there would be no swells or wind at night. Normally a swell would crash up against an iceberg, making it easier to spot. But without light, and without the crashing waves and wind, the iceberg could be impossible to see.

Even more telling is the fact that the temperature dropped significantly when the ship traveled through the Labrador current.  This area was very close to where Titanic ended up sinking. The area has been known to create a phenomenon called a cold water mirage.  A cold water mirage can make large objects appear smaller than they really are. It’s kind of like what a passenger’s mirror says- OBJECTS IN THE MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR.  Except with cold water mirages, it’s more like OBJECTS IN THE WATER ARE BIGGER AND CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR.  These mirages can also make objects look camouflaged or warped.  Either way, it is likely the lookouts didn’t realize the iceberg was right at their doorstep.

While they were saying “peace and safety”…….

What the Titanic saw as a clear, safe path was actually a path to doom. They were thinking of peace and safety and then BOOM, they hit the iceberg!

The operators and crew of Titanic had no clue what was coming, even though it was in their midst, and warnings had been given.

1 Thessalonians 5:3 says, “While people are saying, ‘Peace and safety’, destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.”

Titanic and America

As you read the story of Titanic do you see any parallels to America?  Do you think we’ve had some iceberg warnings?  Do you think our nation has been blind to some of those warnings, or have we been ignoring them?

Whether we realize it or not, our nation was given a big warning back on September 11, 2001. The World Trade Center Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Flight 93 were targets of terrorism. Our nation’s towers came down that day in New York City.  Thousands of lives were lost and for a time our nation called out to God for healing. But it was short lived.

Our laws and values as a whole do not reflect our Christian roots. We are killing millions of babies and changing the definition of marriage. We are a nation that pushes evolution in our schools and rejects God as creator. Sexual promiscuity is commonplace, and drunkenness and gambling are rampant.  Pornography, sex slaves and child sex rings are  a growing problem that stays hidden in the shadows, but they show the darkness permeating this nation and the world.  The worship of money is evident as we live in a nation where people have everything under the Sun, yet they don’t acknowledge THE SON (Jesus) for these blessings. Many go to church, but lack a real relationship with Jesus. Worse yet, many deny he is the Savior.

I’m not saying everyone supports or does those things. There are remnants of those who stand up for Christian values and reject laws and practices that are not biblical. They are not ashamed of the gospel. They stand with Jesus, even if they are seen as “uncool” by the world.  But, as a whole, our nation is moving itself further and further from the foundation of God.

 

I visited ONE WORLD TRADE Center back in October 2019.  This is the tower that replaced the Twin Towers in 2001.  This tower was built on the spot where the Ground Zero cross was found after the towers fell.   When I took a tour of ONE WORLD TRADE Center I saw a hologram inside that said, TOWER ONE RISES FROM A FOUNDATION OF SOLID BEDROCK.  That message hit me because I know there is only ONE SOLID FOUNDATION- JESUS CHRIST!  All other foundations are sinking sand.

Man cannot build a solid foundation.  Only Jesus can. The only page of the Bible found at the wreckage of the World Trade Center Towers was Genesis 11, which is about the Tower of Babel.

It is  2020, and our nation is at war with itself.  We have those who stand with Jesus, and those who do not.  It’s a spiritual Civil War building momentum each day.  Like Abraham Lincoln, who saw his nation splitting in two, we are seeing our nation falling apart, bit by bit.

Back in 2014, there was a series of total lunar eclipses (blood moons).  The first blood moon, which happened on April 15, 2014, lined up with the sinking of Titanic (April 15, 1912), and the date Lincoln died. (April 15, 1865).  This blood moon occurred on Passover.  There was another blood moon that happened the following year, also on Passover.  The date was April 4, 2015 and this one lined up with the death of Martin Luther King Jr. (April 4, 1968) and the date the original World Trade Center Towers were dedicated (April 4, 1973.)  When I wrote What are the Chances, I knew these lunar eclipses were pointing to great division, and the building of spiritual towers in our nation.  In the end, who do we want to stand with? Jesus or Towers of Sand?

The Titanic is now rusting at the bottom of the ocean- laying in two parts- the stern is about 2,000 feet from the bow and they are facing in opposite directions. Is that how we want to be as a nation? Do we want to be divided, or united in Christ?

Did you know that there was a very famous couple who died on the Titanic?  Their names were Isador and Ida Straus.  They were the owners of Macy’s in New York City.  Though they came from wealth, they were humble and  generous. They were known to be very kind to their employees and were model citizens.  When Titanic began sinking, Isador and his wife, both being elderly, were offered a seat on Lifeboat # 8.  Isador refused because he knew there were many women and children still left on the ship who would need a seat.  He urged his wife to board, but she refused.  She said, “We have lived together for many years. Where you go, I go.”  They were willing to stay together until death.  Even though Ida knew she had all the wealth in the world back home in New York, she chose to stay with her husband, even if it meant dying on the Titanic.

Those who made it to safety in the small lifeboats said they saw Isador and Ida “standing alongside the rail, holding each other and weeping silently.” ( as recorded by June Hall McCash in her new book, “A Titanic Love Story: Ida and Isidor Straus.”)

Survivor Archibald Gracie said later: “When the ship settled at the head, the two were engulfed by the wave that swept her.”

The amazing thing is that not only did they share the same date of death, but they also shared the same birthday, February 6. They were born exactly four years apart, but their lives were as one.  Isn’t that extraordinary?

When I look at that couple, I see something amazing.  I see a parallel to the Bride of Christ. We know that right now the world is sinking. There is no hope for this world until Jesus Christ returns to set things straight.  If we hold on to our wealth, we will not gain eternal riches. Like Ida and Isador, we must be willing to let it all go down with the ship. As the Bride of Christ we are to go where Christ goes.  The truth we carry with us is that we have a promise that Christ will return for us at the Rapture.  Even if we die before this, we will have eternity to spend with him.

The story of Ruth is where this famous phrase,“where you go I go”comes from.  Ruth, a Gentile, stays with her Jewish mother in law, even though she could have an easier life back in Moab.  Ruth’s kindness and loyalty pay off when she meets Boaz, a kinsman redeemer.  They are married and through their children comes the bloodline of Jesus Christ.  We can all learn from Ruth’s devotion, and the story of Isador and Ida.  We should be willing to go wherever Jesus takes us.

When the world comes crashing down we have ONE LIFEBOAT- it’s JESUS. When the ship sinks, we hold on to him.  Even if we lose it all, we have him, which is EVERYTHING.

Titanic did not have enough lifeboats

Speaking of lifeboats, there were not enough on the Titanic.  The ship carried 20 lifeboats, which was enough for 1178 people.  The boat was capable of carrying 32 lifeboats, but it was thought this would make the boat look unattractive and cluttered. Unfortunately, there were at least 2,240 passengers on the ship.  You do the math! This is why over 1500 perished.  Even the lifeboats that were available were not filled to capacity.

Passengers who were lucky enough to get a seat on the lifeboat said it was dreadful sight seeing the ships lights go out, and then the entire ship cracked in two.  The ship would slip into the dark, icy waters as the surviving passengers looked on. The people who did not get a lifeboat quickly perished in the freezing water. Even though it was a moonless night, there were lots of stars in the sky. This was the only glimmer of hope seen in a scene of death and chaos.

As we come closer to the return of Jesus, the world will get darker, as it already is. But, keep in mind, before it gets light, it gets dark first.

Genesis 1:1,2 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, DARKNESS WAS OVER THE SURFACE OF THE DEEP, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”

We can see there was darkness in the beginning.   BUT THEN…………….

“God said, ‘LET THERE BE LIGHT‘, and there WAS LIGHT.  God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light ‘day’ and the darkness he called ‘night’.  And there was evening, and there was morning- the first day,” Genesis 1:3

JESUS IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.  The world is dark, but THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD is coming back.  First, he’s coming to take his Bride at the Rapture.  The Bride will know the signs of his coming even though she doesn’t know the exact date.  Jewish Grooms did not tell their Brides when they were coming.  The Bride had to be ready at all hours of the night because it was common for Jewish Grooms to come “like a thief in the night.”  The Groom would return and a shout and a trumpet sound would be heard in the distance.  The Bride would recognize this and she would grab her oil lamp.  Then, the Groom would snatch the Bride away to take her to his Father’s property.

The Bride of Christ has to be ready at any time for the return of the Groom, Jesus. The Bride must have the oil lamp ready (the holy spirit)- THE LIGHT! She must heed the signs of the times and have her bridal attire ready to go.

Jesus endured six hours on the cross and there was darkness for 3 of those hours.  Jesus died and was buried in the tomb.  But guess what? He rose on the third day.  And yes, THEN THERE WAS LIGHT.

Did you know the majority of the people on Titanic were asleep when Titanic hit the iceberg?   How many are awake right now in America? How many realize the return of Jesus is right at the door?

It’s interesting because the Titanic was separated into classes of passengers.  There were the lower class passengers, also referred to as Third Class.  Right in the middle were the Second Class passengers. But, the richest passengers were the First Class.  There were decks built especially for the First Class, which were off limits to the other passengers.  The First Class had the best accommodations, food and entertainment on the ship.  But, when the ship hit the iceberg, all bets were off. Everyone was “in the same boat” so to speak.

Unfortunately, more third and second class passengers died than first class.  The First Class had direct access to the lifeboats. Yet, even though many of the poorer class perished, it was what their hearts carried that was most important.  If they died with Christ, they died rich.  They went on to inherit a kingdom much richer than what was seen on the First Class decks of Titanic.   Though lots of the rich survived the sinking, many reported they could never forget the fear and dread they experienced.  It would haunt them forever.

Survivor Eva Hart is quoted as saying, “The sounds of people drowning are something I cannot describe to you, and neither can anyone else. It’s the most dreadful sound and there is a terrible silence that follows it.”

Harold Bride: Titanic Operator

Harold Bride was the name of one of the main wireless operators on Titanic.  It just so happened he went to bed early that night so he could relieve Jack Phillips at midnight.  They both had a busy day receiving and passing on messages.  When the ship hit the iceberg, Bride was asleep. He woke up shortly after and readied himself to relieve Phillips.  He later stated he barely felt an impact when the ship hit the iceberg.  Within moments, Captain Smith entered and alerted Bride and Phillips to send a distress signal.  At first Bride and Phillips were not worried because their view was that the ship was “unsinkable.”But by midnight the Captain entered again and stated they needed to request help quickly.

The ship was filling with water.  Philips frantically typed, “We have struck an iceberg and we are sinking by the head.”

The two operators worked tirelessly up to the last minute, sending distress messages to other ships.  Finally, there was no time left.  Phillips typed one last message- “Come quick. Engine room nearly full.”

Bride would survive by climbing onto an overturned lifeboat. Phillips, however, died in the frigid water.

As the Titanic was sinking, a band was playing. Music played as the ship’s final moments lingered.

Harold Bride, one of the wireless operators, witnessed the last song played by the Titanic band.  The song was called Autumn (also known as Song de Automne). He said it was playing as the ship dove down into the water like a duck.

The Carpathia was the closest ship to respond to Titanic’s distress calls, but it wasn’t close enough to get there before it sank.  It took the Carpathia two hours to get through the fields of ice.   Just 705 survivors were rescued from the lifeboats.

The Last Song Played on Titanic was called Autumn

As I think about the last song being played as Titanic sank into the ocean, a vivid image passes through my mind.  The song’s name was Autumn and the return of Jesus is tied to the Fall Feasts- the Autumn feasts.   The Feast of Trumpets occurs in September or October each year in the autumn. On this feast (biblical appointment) the shofar (trumpet) is sounded 100 times.  Biblical scholars have tied this feast to the possible Rapture of the church.  Since the feast occurs every year there is of course no date or year pinpointed.  No one knows the day or the hour. But this feast/holiday does remind us that Jesus will come get his Bride, and it could be in Autumn.

Hey, I just thought of Harold Bride.  It reminds me that as the Bride of Christ we have a message to get out there.  We need to be the wireless operators that tell others about Jesus and share the gospel with them.   We need to pay attention to the messages Jesus is giving us and share them with others.  We can’t fall asleep on the job.

Revelation 1:19 says, “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later.”

Do you see the 911 in that verse?  We need to tell others someway….somehow…..we can write it, speak it or sing it! However we can, LET’S DO IT.  I picture the famous image of Rosie the Riveter where she’s flexing her muscles with the slogan, WE CAN DO IT!

The Titanic has set sail and we don’t want to wait until it’s too late.  Even if the Titanic sinks, however, we have our rescue set.  Our lifeboat in Jesus is secure.

The iceberg that hit Titanic bore the mark of the ship.  A picture was taken by Prinz Adalbert, who was aboard a German ship that sailed through the North Atlantic on April 15, 1912, just miles from where the Titanic sank.  He recorded seeing a streak of red paint along the base of the iceberg.

Captain De Carteret of the Minia, a ship that came to the scene of Titanic’s sinking to recover bodies, recorded seeing the same iceberg with a notable red scar along its base.

I’m not sure what you’re thinking as you read this detail about the red streak/scar on that iceberg.  But, for me, a TITANIC truth rings in my spirit.  No matter what iceberg comes our way, we have the blood of Jesus to cover us.  Every situation, sin and challenge is marked by his blood- his scars.

Titanic is a metaphor for many things.  Our nation and our very lives.  Our nation needs the blood of Jesus, as well as our individual hearts.

COVID-19 IS AN ICEBERG

This virus we are facing right now- COVID-19- is certainly one of the biggest icebergs I’ve ever seen.  I believe its one of many warnings we’ve already received. Some of us are paying attention to unimportant things such as money, status or world desires.  But those who belong to Christ should be tuning in to the wireless messages from Jesus.  Like Ida and Isador Straus, our love for Jesus overcomes icy waters and sinking ships.

“You are all children OF THE LIGHT AND OF THE DAY.  We do not belong to darkness and night.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5.    Even though Titanic sank in the dark, icy waters on a moonless night, it didn’t mean all hope was lost. After all, the darkness of the night is what made the stars show up so bright that night.

Daniel 2:3 says, “And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.”

In order to see light, you have to have some darkness.  How much brighter those stars shine when they shine within the dark.

When Titanic was built, there was a race going on to build the biggest, fastest ship.  In fact, Titanic was one of three ships called sister ships.  Titanic was built alongside the Olympic.   Britannic was built a few years after.  Titanic and her sister ships Olympic and Britannic, were built to compete with the ocean liners Mauretania and the Lusitania.  But in the end, the speed and luxury of these boats did not save them.

As we know, Titanic sank.  The Olympic was taken out of service after just 24 years. Olympic dropped out of service when the Great Depression hit.  Her luxurious features were not affordable or appealing anymore.

The Britannic met a violent end when it hit a mine in 1916, just two years after it first went into service.  At the time there were 1,065 people on board, but this time there were ample lifeboats, so all but 30 survived.

Britannic was actually bigger than Titanic and is the largest passenger ship lying on the sea floor. Unfortunately, she sank three times faster than Titanic–  Fifty-five minutes in comparison to Titanic’s two hours and forty minutes..  The Britannic was designed to be stronger than Titanic. But it met the same fate.  The difference, however, was that when Britannic was hit by the land mine, it was being used as a hospital ship during WW1. It  had red crosses painted on it to show its designation.

With these ships we see a pattern of building bigger and better. But, in the end it isn’t bigger or better that counts.  Ships or towers sink and collapse.  The cross is what endures.

The idea to construct Titanic and her sister ships was discussed over dinner on APRIL 30, 1907.   Bruce Ismay and William James Pirrie discussed the idea at Lord Pirrie’s mansion in London.  The discussion centered on building a class of ships that would complete with the Cunard Line for luxury ships on the Atlantic.

On April 30, 2012 (105 years later) One World Trade Center once again became the tallest building in New York. It was not complete, but it had reached a height that put it back in its spot as tallest tower.  After the original Twin Towers collapsed in New York, they were no longer the tallest buildings to grace the New York skyline. So, a new tower was built.  Isn’t it interesting that the dates are the same?  One is building ships and the other is building towers.

Thomas Andrews, the designer of the Titanic, admits something revealing in this quote.  He said, “Let the truth be known- no ship is unsinkable. The bigger the ship, the easier it is to sink her. I learned long ago that if you design how a ship will sink, you can keep her afloat. I proposed all the watertight compartments and the double hull to slow these ships from sinking. In that way, you get everyone off.  There’s time for help to arrive, and the ship’s less likely to break apart and kill someone while she’s going down.”

Thomas Andrews died when the Titanic sank on April 15, 1912.

Before signing off, I want to leave you with one more thought.  Titanic’s full name was  the RMS Titanic.  Do you know what the RMS stood for?   ROYAL MAIL STEAMER.  Titanic carried not only passengers, but also mail. The five postal clerks on the ship worked till the end to save the mailbags and take them to higher decks. But, all five mail clerks lost their lives trying to save the mail. When the ship sank, it was carrying over 1.6 million pieces of mail !

Mail carries messages.  A lot of messages went down with the ship.

In reality, however,  a royal message was certainly delivered, even though the ship sank. The message:  We cannot cling to this sinking world, but we can cling to Jesus.  He will never leave or forsake us.

 

This is a picture of the Titanic necklace I received from my Mom before I started writing What are the Chances? The Uncanny Connections Between Titanic, 9-11, Israel and the United States.  When she bought it for me, she didn’t know what the Lord was showing me about Titanic, or that I was considering writing the book.   What was amazing is that on the back it had this inscription:  “Where You Go I Go”.  The necklace design was inspired by the love of Isador and Ida Straus.   As I always say, What are the chances????

The inscription has started to wear off and is  becoming discolored from being worn so much, but you can still see it……..

Titanic hit the iceberg at 11:40 p.m. on April 14, 1912.  Two hours and forty minutes later, it sank at 2:20 a.m on April 15, 1912.
