A few days ago, on January 27, 2016, the world remembered a tragic, unfathomable event. The Holocaust, which means Great Fire, took the lives of over six million Jews, along with millions of political dissidents, gays, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and people considered to be “enemies of the Nazis”. The horrific events took place 71 years ago, and for some they are far from their minds, far from their generation. Yet, the days of Hitler and his regime are not so far behind us. For as I write this, the spirit of Hitler is rising again. It’s continued to rise in the Middle East, with countries like Iran calling for the destruction of Israel. It’s rising in Europe where stories of hatred against Jews continue to surface. Even in America you can hear the anti-Jewish slurs. What’s happening? How can an event so unfathomable be surfacing again like a shark lurking beneath the dark waters?
On January 27, 1945 the Soviets liberated Auschwitz, which was the largest concentration camp in Europe during World War II. Prior to the liberation up to 60,000 prisoners were forced to participate in a Death March. Any prisoner who could not make the journey was shot in cold blood. During this march prisoners were at the brink of starvation, forced to march miles and miles in the bitter cold. By the time the Soviet army reached Auschwitz there were less than 7,000 prisoners left in the camp. These prisoners were in horrible shape, suffering from disease, malnutrition and exposure. The Soviets were shocked at the condition of the camp, as well as the condition of its survivors. In all, it is believed close to two million prisoners died at Auschwitz, though this is an estimate. Many prisoners were not documented and the bodies were disposed of, making the true number impossible to tell.
Auschwitz is known for its horrors- from the gassing of its prisoners to the experiments of the psychotic Josef Mengele. The stories from the survivors of Auschwitz is enough to turn anyone’s stomach. As I write this tears stream from my eyes as I remember the research I did while learning about the Holocaust. While writing my book What Are the Chances, I came across so many disturbing details- ones that will haunt me forever.
As I did research for my book I came across significant details that made me wonder if the Lord was speaking at this very moment. One day I was researching the liberation of the concentration camps in Europe when I stumbled across this date- APRIL 4, 1945. This was the date the United States forces liberated a camp called Ohrdruf, located in Germany. It was part of the Buchenwald concentration camp network. Even though other camps had been liberated previously (such as Auschwitz being liberated January 27, 1945) THIS WAS THE FIRST CAMP LIBERATED BY UNITED STATES TROOPS. I looked at that April 4 date and immediately I knew there was a tie. On April 4, 2015 there was a total lunar eclipse (blood moon) which occurred. This eclipse was the third one in a series of four, all occurring on Jewish feasts. This particular April 4, 2015 total lunar eclipse occurred on the Feast of Passover. So, this lunar eclipse coincided with the 70th anniversary of the United States liberation of Ohrdruf- the FIRST camp ever liberated by the U.S.
I thought about this and it made me wonder. Was God calling out to the United States? Was he reminding our nation about the atrocities of the Holocaust? Was he reminding our nation that the Nazi spirit was on the rise, especially in Europe?
I delved further into this April 4 date and found out not only was Ohrdruf liberated, but all of Hungary was liberated on April 4, 1945. Just to give a frame of reference, keep in mind that most of Hungary’s Jewish population was deported and sent to Auschwitz, while others were shot and killed on the banks of the Danube in Budapest. In all, approximately 600,000 Hungarian Jews were murdered. The liberation of Hungary was a key piece of history.
As I continued researching the April 4 date I came across the date of April 15. If you’ve read my book What Are the Chances, you will know April 15 is the anniversary of Titanic’s sinking, which occurred in 1912. I found out that Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp was liberated on April 15, 1945. This is the very camp that once held Anne Frank. She passed away just months shy of its liberation. As I looked at the eerie coincidence of dates I couldn’t help but wonder if it was a reminder of how dark the world was becoming. The Titanic sank into the dark depths on April 15, 1912. The victims of the Holocaust, Anne Frank included, were left as orphans and widows. The world failed them. The world allowed Hitler to rise and take hold of a dark, demonic dream. The world allowed the Jews to sink by the millions, on a ship captained by Satan’s minions- the Nazis. By the time the world stepped in, millions of Jews had been gassed, tortured, incinerated and forgotten.
In my research I stumbled upon a letter written by Dwight Eisenhower, a famous World War II general, and former President. This letter, dated April 15, 1945, addresses the atrocities that were committed at Ohrdruf Concentration Camp, the first camp liberated by U.S. forces. In the letter, Eisenhower suggests the full documentation of all the concentration camps. He wants irrefutable proof of what happened in the camps so no one can deny the horrific acts that were committed. General George Patton tours the Buchenwald concentration camp on April 15, 1945, bringing in photographers for documentation. Patton writes his own letter, describing the conditions of the camp. As I read about these letters I thought about the Titanic, which sank on April 15, 1912. The Titanic tragedy was avoidable and there were warnings. With the Holocaust the warnings were evident. But, action wasn’t taken right away. If it weren’t for leaders like Eisenhower and Patton, making sure the atrocities were documented, would the world really know the truth about what happened? On January 27, 2016, Iran’s Ayatollah continued to deny the Holocaust happened. Other Middle Eastern countries do the same. There are stories of Holocaust deniers all over Europe. Yet, the United States thoroughly documented it. There is irrefutable proof. Perhaps the total lunar eclipse (blood moon) that occurred on April 15, 2014 (Passover) is a reminder to stand with God’s ancient people. Their blood was spilled by the Nazis. Their fight for survival is not over. We need to help. (Keep in mind there were two total lunar eclipses that occurred on Passover- one on April 15,2014 -Titanic anniversary- and the other on April 4, 2015 also on Passover.)
Here’s my point. The Holocaust is a tragic event that should have never happened on our watch. God used the United States as a driving force to help save and shelter the Jewish people. The U.S. was the first nation to recognize Israel back in 1948. They received a new homeland- a place to be free from persecution. Yet, here we are again. Some old ghosts are rising and the signs are evident. But who is watching? On September 13, 2015 there was a solar eclipse occurring on Rosh Hashanah. In a previous post I mentioned the Ground Zero Cross was found on September 13, 2001. But what I didn’t mention is this man’s name- Amon Goeth. Who is he you ask? He is perhaps the most demonic, notorious butcher of the Holocaust. The movie Schindler’s List highlights some of his sadistic behaviors. He is credited with the extermination of over 8,000 concentration camp prisoners. He shot them for fun from his balcony at the camp. There are stories of him forcing prisoners to eat their own excrement. Well guess what? Amon Goeth was hanged on September 13, 1946. Before his hanging, at his trial sentencing, his last words were “Heil Hitler.” There’s the September 13 date again!
So I ask you, is the spirit of Hitler rising? Remember that April 4 date I told you about earlier? That’s the date the United States liberated its first camp in 1945. It’s also the date of a total lunar eclipse on April 4, 2015 (on Passover). On April 4, 1973, the original Twin Towers were dedicated to our nation. That’s right- the World Trade Center Towers- the ones that were destroyed on September 11, 2001- same date, different year. Since 9-11 we have built our new tower. It’s called One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower). As we see the birth of this new tower I can’t help but wonder if we can see the things God is trying to show us. Do we see the smoke rising? Or, are we too busy living in comfort and safety. During World War II we lived in comfort and safety for a time. We declared our neutrality on September 5, 1939 (Proclamation 2348). Yet, we were attacked two years later on December 7, 1941 (Pearl Harbor). This “Day in Infamy” grabbed our nation by the jaws and pulled us in. What’s going to pull us in this time? When Israel needs help, what will bring us in? If we read our Bibles, we know Israel will be a stumbling block to the nations. They will be persecuted by the world. Yet, God is still calling out to the nation he blessed. He is reminding them of the tie they have to his ancient people. These ancient people, the Jews, were almost wiped off the earth. Yet God chose our nation to help- to be a beacon of light. Where is that nation now? As the spirit of butchers like Amon Goeth rise, where are God’s people? Are they neutral? Or are they willing to take a stand?
The blood moons which occurred on April 15, 2014, October 8, 2014, April 4, 2015 and September 28, 2015 are not chance. They all occurred on Jewish Feasts. The last time this occurred was back in 1967. In 1967 Israel was being attacked, yet it secured the rest of Jerusalem in the Six Days War on June 7, 1967. Since those blood moons on Jewish feasts in 1967, Israel continues to fight for its very existence- the very existence the U.S. helped secure. Jerusalem is a cup of trembling right now- right now! Stabbings, shootings and attacks take place everyday in Jerusalem, yet the world does nothing. Israel is criticized and condemned. Nations surrounding her call out for another Holocaust. It’s right in front of our eyes. And what are we doing? What will we do in the future? If you ask me, God is reminding us of the Holocaust, and he is reminding us to stand with his people. If we do not help his people, Titanic is at our doorstep.
Another fact about April 4- April 4, 1949 is when NATO was formed.
April 4, 1970– The body of Adolf Hitler was exhumed, burned and thrown into the Elbe River
